ABSTRACT





The aims of the research were 1) to know the students perception of lecturers teaching style, and 2) to know the students preference of lecturers teaching style.This research was descriptive. The population of this research was the sixth semester students of English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto in academic year 2009/2010. The writer took 35 students as sample. The instrument of collecting data was three questionnaires. Data collection was conducted on May 20, 2010.




Based on the research findings, the writer concluded that 54,28% of students perceive lecturer 1 as to have formal authority style. It is in contrast with lecturer 1s self perception. Lecturer 1 perceived his/her teaching style as delegator style. Meanwhile, 45,71% of students perceive lecturer 2 as to have expert style. It is parallel with the lecturer 2s self perception. Lecturer 2 perceived his/her teaching style as expert and personal model style. Meanwhile, 97,14% of students perceive lecturer 3 as to have facilitator teaching style. It is in contrast with lecturer 3s selfperception. Lecturer 3 perceived his/her teaching style as personal model style.




Moreover, with regard to students preference of teaching style, the mean score of facilitator was 4,6. It means that the most dominant teaching style preferred by the students was facilitator style while the least dominant teaching style was formal authority style.
