ABSTRACT.



The aim of this research was to know the effectiveness of reciprocal teaching to develop reading skills.


This research used quasi experimental method in which the sample was not chosen randomly but based on the class. The writer chose two classes as the sample. They were VIII A as control class and VIII B as experimental class. Pre-test and post-test were used to find the data. The test was multiple choice forms. t-test formula was used to analyze the data.


The result of the research showed that there was a significant difference of the students ability in reading between the students who were taught using reciprocal teaching and those who were taught using conventional method. It could be seen on the result of computation of


t-test, where t-test was 2.66 and t-table was 1.9944 at the significant level
α = 0.05, df = 70. So, t-test was higher than t-table. It means the hypothesis that reciprocal teaching was effective to develop reading skills is accepted.
