ABSTRACT



The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of teaching reading using Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition (CIRC) to the second grade of SMP N 7 Cilacap in the Academic Year of 2010/2011.


The population of this research was the second grade students of SMP N 7 Cilacap. The samples of this research were 76 students. The writer took two classes as the subjects of the research, those were class VIII C and class VIII D. Class VIII D was the experimental class and class VIII C was the control class. The method used was experimental research. The writer used tests, the tests were multiple choice tests. In analyzing the data, the writer used t-test.


Based on the computation result above, the writer can take a conclusion that CIRC is effective to teach Reading. It can be seen from t-test result that 3.241 and t-table 1.667, so t-test is higher than t-table. It means that in teaching Reading at the second grade of SMP N 7 Cilacap with this CIRC technique is effective.
