The Effect of Breast Care and Back Massage Trainings on Posyandu Volunteers Toward Practice of Breastfeeding Mom Care in Puskesmas Purwokerto Selatan

Exclusive breastfeeding will provide great benefits for both mothers and their babies. From the result of preliminary study in Puskemas (Community Health Center)

Purwokerto Selatan, exclusive breastfeeding took 53.4% overall. The success of exclusive breastfeeding is affected by the active role of health practitioners, nutrition officers, and health promotion staff. Some recommended actions to overcome the problems of breast milk production are breast care, back massage, and marmet techniques. The volunteers should always suggest continuing exclusive breastfeeding within 2 years with

extra MPASI (Complementary Feeding). The importance of Posyandu (Village Integrated Health Post) volunteer in improving health in community requires volunteer who obtain

current knowledge and skills that can be applied to the community. To discover the effect of breast care and back massage trainings on Posyandu volunteer on breastfeeding mothers care practice. The research design was quasy experimental with treatment group obtained breast care and back massage trainings while in control group acquired health education in increasing breastmilk production. The sample in this research was volunteers of Posyandu for toddlers (Balita) in Community Health Center of Purwokerto Selatan consisted of 48 volunteer for treatment group and 48 participants control group. Simple random sampling was conducted as the sampling method. The Statistical test was MannWhitney test. Breastfeeding mom care practice in control group collected 39 volunteers (81.2%) while in the treatment group, it was obtained 42 volunteers in majority (87.5%). Breastfeeding mother care of volunteers at posyandu for toddlers obtained p value = 0.000 (p < 0.05). There is an effect of breast care and back massage trainings on posyandu volunteers to the practice of breastfeeding mother care in Puskesmas Purwokerto Selatan.
