Skin damage can caused by excessive exposure of sunlight. The ability suncreen to withstand ultraviolet light from sunscreen is rated as a sun protection factor (Sun Protecting Factor). This study investigated differences in total phenolic content (TPC), and SPF value of red and black rice. The SPF value was determined by in vitro method with Uv-Vis spectrophotometry. Extraction was done by 96% ethanol solvent. The absorbance of each extract solution was measured in the wavelength range 290-320 nm. Total phenolic content was determined by Uv-Vis spectrophotometry method with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent at a wavelength of 734 nm. The SPF value of 500 ppm red rice extract solution was 3.3, which is categorized as minimal protection sunscreen. The SPF value of the black rice extract was 12.99 which is categorised as maximum protection criteria. The TPC value of red and black rice extract were 193.61 and 247.56 mgGAE/g, respectively An increase in SPF values is accompanied by an increase in total phenolic content.
